It seems I have a hard time taking a year off and NOT creating something. During my last mat leave I hand letterpressed holiday cards and started an Etsy store where they promptly sold out. This time around I decided to tackle an actual design challenge I faced with our then 6 month old daughter.
No snowsuits in car seats. What? But how do I get to the car? How does she stay warm? What is going on?? That was what was going on in my head when I found out how dangerous it was to put your baby in a car seat with a jacket or snowsuit on. After a little bit of research, a few prototypes, and some late nights (because who doesn’t love staying up all night with a new baby?) I came up with a design solution that I thought was the best of both worlds. A totally functional, safe solution to keeping kiddies safe and warm in their car seats AND totally adorable and unique.

After an amazing 8 years in Toronto we’ve decided to pack our things and move back West. As of Summer 2016 the Webbs will be in a 25ft motorhome with our 2 kids and (non-flying) pug trekking our way across Canada till we see the Pacific Ocean. Wish us luck and thank you to all the wonderful people we’ve met in Toronto and all the amazing opportunities we’ve found.
Just want to give a huge thank you to DesignEdge Magazine for featuring my husband and I in their “10 Young Designers to Watch” issue.
Now that I’ve gotten a chance to settle in to my new position at U of T, I finally have some work to share. I got the chance to do this Rubik’s cube for their Boundless campaign my first week and we just got some samples back. You may or may not be surprised by the amount of restrictions that the Rubik’s company has for customized cubes (leaving their logo on the yellow square for one) but I like that we were able to add yet another level of complexity to these by having to match the sides AND spell out the words. Fun project. Definitely cross this off my rare-swag-design Bucket List.
Well I’ve made an important decision. I’ve decided to divorce The Office of Nature from my design work as Katherine Patton…and subsequently all my design work will now be under the name Katherine Webb. Hence the new portfolio site and url. Complicated, I know. But not really. The Office of Nature is now strictly the illustration work I do for my Etsy shop and is also my brand spanking new kids illustration blog! I feature inspiring illustration for kids of all kinds. It’s been up for about a month and is going strong.
Turns out changing your name in the 21st century can be a pretty complicated thing. Who knew.
After a month of trying to keep this a secret I’m happy to finally be able to share the illustration I did for the menu of the latest Charlie’s Burgers dinner series featuring Le Chateaubriand, No. 9 on the annual ranking of the world’s 50 best restaurants. 700+ RSVPs came in for this exclusive 2 night dinner and I’m incredibly flattered to have my work featured next to such talent! If you haven’t heard about Charlie’s Burgers you can read more about it in this great article. You can also check out this great photo gallery from Toronto Life. Enjoy!

This past Christmas I had the great pleasure of working in the letterpress studio of Silverplate Press. We printed a 2-colour holiday card on the Vandercook in her living room and trimmed them on a century old paper cutter. She even included beer and cheese fondue! Hopefully we’ll be able to work on more projects together this year since the quality of her press was amazing and it was such a great time. Just finished putting together these photos and this little video of footage we made of the process. Enjoy.
Last year, I made a New Year’s resolution. To draw more and open an Etsy store. It’s taken a lot of work but I’m very proud to say I stuck to this goal and made it happen. As I start 2012, I’m proud to say I’ve made 63 sales in just over 3 months to countries all over the world. I just want to thank everyone who has supported me in this and to everyone purchased an OON print for an awesome kid in their life! THANK YOU.
To start the year off, here is the first in my new series of Alphabet prints! ENJOY!

Teamed up with La Carnita last night for the latest Toronto Underground Market at the Brickworks. Such a great event. All my old crew from OneMethod was there making tacos, the boys from Westside were sporting some pretty awesome shirts and my husband was fryin’ up some amazing fish tacos below a giant hand painted version of his logo aka. Meatface. The line up held strong all night until the last 700th taco with a full line of people still waiting. The art prints were gone within an hour. If you weren’t able to make it to this one, get your tickets early next time!
